Emergency Services Cadet Programme

The Emergency Services Cadet Program is a youth development program, which has been developed through the enhancement of the State Emergency Services [SES] Cadet Scheme.
- Life skills and encourage participation in local communities;
- Personal strengths, including self confidence, initiative, leadership and teamwork;
- Skills and knowledge to enhance community safety; and
- A potential recruitment pool for emergency services.
- The Lowood Cadet Group was formed in 1996 and has developed over the last decade into a strong group, both in numbers and training. We currently have approximately 35 cadets supported by 10 volunteer adult leaders.

What type of things do cadets do?
- First Aid
- Bushcraft and camping
- Boating safety
- Fire prevention and awareness
- Map reading and navigation
- Search and Rescue Techniques
- Knots and lashings
- How to handle injured and traumatised people
- How to operate a fire extinguisher
- Leadership
- Team building
- Communications
This is achieved through weekly training in the school term and on camps during the weekends.
How do I join?
Cadets is open to anyone that has started grade 8 and is not above the age of 16 years. Intakes occur once a year, usually in February. For further information please contact the Local Cadet Coordinator.
